Isle of Purbeck Golf Club [Studland]

A golf club that you are not a member of may seem an odd place to go for lunch and, of course, many clubs are members only anyway but the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club, which was once a members club, is now owned by a company and they have opened up the facilities to non-members. As an ex-golfer I have visited several clubs over the years and, as far as dining is concerned, this one is by far the best. We eat in the restaurant but meals are also available in the bar.

What are the plus points that make this good? Well, the chef is the first factor! We have only been there four times since it opened up and our meal has been excellent every time. We do not usually have a sweet but as there is an inclusive two course lunch we do here and the sweets are really nice. Secondly, the restaurant is spotless and well furnished to make it a comfortable venue (see note below!) and finally, it has an outstanding panoramic view across Poole Harbour and far beyond which is a joy to behold whatever the weather outside!

The food here is not 'chips and something' and although not an extensive menu there is enough to provide a good choice and I am sure most would find something to suit. At £18.00 for two courses (Feb 2018) I felt it represented good value. We use it occasionally as a 'treat' and something different rather than a regular favourite.

Two points of caution though. Firstly, the club caters for golf societies and special functions so ALWAYS ring first to make sure you can get a table. Secondly, the panorama outside comes at a price. The large windows give an excellent view but also makes it cold in winter and hot in summer in extreme conditions. It is generally OK but if it is 3 degrees or 30 degrees outside then it is going to be uncomfortable.
