Turbary Common Local Nature Reserve

Turbary Common: Dartford warbler comes to town -

Whilst Turbary Common displays many of the symptoms of an urban nature reserve that is surrounded by housing and industry I have to say that I enjoyed my first visit and was quite surprised. It is quite large for such a site and has an interesting diversity of habitat from essential, dry heath to damp and boggy myre along with mixed woodland and scrub.

Obviously well used by the local population there is significant dog mess to contend with as well as litter and other signs of damage, there has been a small fire there recently, but this should not put you off visiting if you are in the area. I was surprised to find Dartford warbler there but the timing of my first visit means that the species list I have is not that impressive, I will try to enhance it as the year goes on.
