Norden Heath and the Green Pool

Norden Heath: the green pool -

Norden Heath is a small part of a much wider area of the national nature reserve known as Stoborough Heath. Norden Heath lies behind the Blue Pool tourist attraction and can be accessed from various points but we usually enter from a footpath at Creech which takes us first to the Green Pool (a smaller version of the Blue Pool but the water appears green not blue and access is free!).  The Green Pool is a wonderfully quiet spot and the reflections of the surrounding trees in the still water are almost perfect.

The heath itself has many of the features of the other Purbeck heaths, there is dry heath with heathers and gorse with associated reptile and insect populations. The Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust are involved in the management of the area for the benefit of our six native reptiles.  To the east of the reserve is an area of wet bog and myre which lies in a valley which is like another world, a lovely place
