Haydon Hill Nature Reserve

Haydon Hill: the hay down -

Haydon Hill Nature Reserve lies in the Cerne Valley about four miles north of the village of Charminster, near Dorchester. The reserve is north-east facing unimproved chalk grassland. It is a quite steep climb to the highest point but it is worth the effort to see the views up the Cerne valley and to see species that only grow at the top! As with much chalk grassland this is really a place to visit in mid to late summer when the best of the flowers are out and insects will be at their best.

There is a small car park but the reserve has few visitors so you are more than likely to find room. It is not a big reserve so why not also pop in to Brooklands Farm conservation area at the Dorset Wildlife Trust headquarters just a mile or two up the road?
