Greenhill Down Nature Reserve

Greenhill Down Nature Reserve: a green hill far away -

Greenhill Down is a lovely reserve, seemingly miles from anywhere and a haven of peace and calm. Mixed downland and woodland habitats with a wide range of flowers and insects along with a number of woodland bird species too. There are lovely views, especially towards Milton Abbey. If visiting be sure to look in at the dew pond but you will need to look at the map on the interpretation board to be able to find it!

The peace and quiet is attained at a price though; Greehill Down is not for the faint-hearted! There is very limited parking in the small village of Hilton and then there is a walk of just over a mile (up hill) just to reach the reserve and another mile back and so if you are not a fit as you once were that does not leave a lot left to see the reserve itself which covers quite a reasonable area. There are no footpaths, seats or other facilities, this is a reserve for the enthusiast!

If you are fit then do not let anything put you off a visit.
