Perryfields Nature Reserve

Perryfields Nature Reserve: small but beautiful -

Perryfields is one of two nature reserves managed by the Dorset branch of Butterfly Conservation on Portland; the other, Broadcroft Quarry, is close by and is much bigger. Perryfields is also quite close to an active quarry which makes it a bit noisier and dustier! That said, do not be put off visiting, Perryfields is a reserve well worth seeing.

Like most other reserves on Portland, Perryfields is a dissued quarry that nature has been allowed to recolonise. Nature is now given a helping hand here by Butterfly Conservation to ensure flowers and grasses are not totally overrun by scrub and tree regeneration. As a result a summer time visit will be rewarded with a display of wildflowers that are readily frequented by butterflies and other insects in search of nectar.

Perryfields is not a big reserve so if you are thinking of paying it a visit why not tie your trip in with one of the other nature reserves on Portland or perhaps a trip down to the bill. Portland is a special place for  wildlife.
