|Site Name||Rempstone Heath|
Rempstone: keep to the straight and narrow -
Rempstone estate covers a large area on the south side of Poole harbour. Much of the land on the north side of the B3351 road from Corfe Castle to the view point, just before the golf course, is part of the estate. The estate has been heavily exploited for commercial benefit and much of it is covered in Corsican pine plantation. If you stop at the view point on the main road you can see just how much of what was once prime heath is now sterile coniferous woodland. In addition, there are oil wells on the site and some areas cleared for grazing, others reserved for shooting and others for camping and recreation. All in all there should be not much of natural interest here but nature being what it is there are some spots that are still rich in species and some of the woodland rides have a diverse flora. Much of the land is marked private and is fenced off providing very little access to the shoreline. However, a walk along the rights of way that do exist, several of which are cycle routes, can be rewarding.
